Why I Coach

I started coaching for the same reason I started racing — I like the problem. Endurance performance is never one variable; it's training load, recovery, nutrition, life stress, and psychology, all interacting at once. Coaching is where I get to work that problem with someone else's season on the line, and actually see it pay off.

I also coach because of the coaching I didn't get early on — plans that didn't explain the why, feedback that arrived too late to matter. I want the athletes I work with to understand their own training well enough to trust it, not just follow it.

Philosophy

Every athlete I coach starts from the same principle: your data and your feedback matter equally. Power numbers and training load tell me what's physically happening; how you slept, how the legs felt on a hard day, and what's going on outside of sport tell me why. I plan around both, adjust openly when something isn't working, and explain the reasoning as we go — not because it's good practice, but because an athlete who understands their training sticks with it longer.

How I Work With Athletes

Coaching happens primarily through intervals.icu and WhatsApp — plans, session notes, and questions in one place, not scattered across email threads.

I built my own tool that calculates and syncs each athlete's daily nutrition targets to their training plan, so fuelling adjusts automatically around a hard week instead of being an afterthought. It's one example of where I'd rather build something that solves a real problem than rely on a generic template.

Why Athletes Should Trust Me

I've raced at the level I coach toward — national colours, European racing, and the training mistakes that come with both. I'm not coaching from a textbook I've never tested; I'm coaching from a mix of my own results, formal coaching education, and every athlete I've worked with since.

None of that replaces good data. It's why the numbers and the feedback still lead every decision — trust in the process comes from being able to see it, not from taking my word for it.
